The Traditional Approach

Many couples are unaware that the traditional approach would be for each bridesmaid to pay for her wedding attire herself. Being asked to be a part of the wedding party would traditionally be seen as an honour in itself and paying for your own dress and accessories was a way to show the bride a form of gratitude. 

The Modern Approach

Today, old school rules seem to have gone out of the window, and many generous brides and families of the bride and groom tend to foot the bill when it comes to paying for the bridesmaid attire. Alternatively, some couples may even provide each bridesmaid with a portion of the cost. While this is incredibly generous, the modern approach is still very much the exception, and bridesmaids should still expect to pay for their own dresses and accessories, as well as hair and make-up appointments. 

The Cost

Given the various expenses involved in a wedding, the bride and her bridal party should consider the cost as well as height and body types before selecting each dress. This will avoid any upset, keeping each bridesmaid happy and comfortable throughout the day. 

What if  Your Bridesmaid Can’t Afford to Pay?

If you have found the perfect bridesmaid dresses for your bridal party which are a little on the expensive side, then there is the possibility that some may not be able to afford to pay. To avoid any friction on cost, be prepared to be flexible on the choice of dress or offer to pay a percentage of the total cost which benefits you both.
