Cutting down your wedding guest list is never the fun part of planning, but with COVID-19 restrictions still being unpredictable and smaller weddings becoming the norm, the Wedding Team at Delamere Manor has pulled together a list of their top tips on how to cut down your wedding guest list and who you should invite…
Don’t Leave it to the Last Minute
Although COVID-19 hasn’t really given newlyweds a choice in the matter, it’s best to be ahead of the game and up to speed with the latest news announcements when it comes to knowing how many wedding guests you are allowed to have at your wedding. Unless a last-minute lockdown occurs, it’s best to inform your guests whether you are going to be able to have them attend your wedding or not, sooner rather than later. A good way to avoid last-minute surprises is by adding a note to the wedding invites stating if Covid restrictions are reinstated, then unfortunately they will no longer be able to attend.
Allow a Limited Number of Guests to Bring a Plus One
If you feel like you’re already going to be over your limit of guests by allowing plus ones, then state in your invitations whether your guests are allowed to bring someone along or not. Those in long term relationships are more likely to be upset if their other half can’t attend your wedding than those in more casual/fresh relationships.
Have a Child Free Wedding
If you don’t have children of your own, having a child-free wedding is a great way to keep numbers low. Remember- if you have one or two children attend, this could cause offence to the families of those you refused, so it’s best to allow all children to attend or no children at all.
Prioritise Family
Have a few family members you haven’t spoken to in years and are not particularly close to? Don’t feel obliged to invite them to your wedding. Your wedding is a day for you and your partner and for those who know you well to celebrate your love. Providing invites to those you aren’t particularly close to is keeping your guest numbers higher than they need to be.
The One-Year Rule
This makes things really easy for you and your partner- only invite those you have spoken to within a year. If you’re not sure on whether to invite someone or you feel guilty if you don’t, think about the last time you spoke to them and whether they are going to be involved in your future.
