How to create the perfect playlist
A wedding playlist is a great way to create a personalised soundtrack for your reception party. You can make sure all your favourite tunes get played and tailor it to you and your partner’s tastes. So whether you’re into RnB, funk, disco, pop, indie or old school house, you can select the tracks and dictate the tempo of the night.
Here are the Wedding Team at Delamere Manor’s top five tips to create the perfect playlist and keep your guests on the dancefloor all night long.
1. Plenty of music
Depending on the length of your party you’ll need around 20 songs per hour, so for an average four hour party that’s at least 80 songs, plus it’s always worth adding a few extra! Brainstorm with your other half to get started and do this over several evenings, this is a job that will take time and not something you can do in an hour or two!
2. Ask for requests
Involve your guests and get them to help input on your playlist. Plan ahead by adding a song request line to RSVP cards or create a collaborative playlist on Spotify and let family and friends recommend their favourites. Spotify is easy to use and the music choice is endless. Make sure to pay for the premium version though to eliminate adverts.
3. Hire a DJ
Many DJs will accept a playlist and hiring a professional takes the stress away on the day. At Delamere Manor we’ve got our own night club with lots of space for a DJ or if you want to mix things up, your favourite band too!
4. One slow, for every fast five
Unless you’re sticking to one specific music genre then a good playlist will have high moments with some slower-paced songs to help guests catch their breath and create a bit of a flow. The general rule of thumb is play one slow song for every five fast-paced ones.
5. Finish on a high
Cries for ‘one more’ are inevitable but end your night with a bang with a real floor filler that you and your partner love.
