When preparing for your wedding, the usual expectation is that there will be at least three speeches that take place during the reception – the groom, the best man and the father of the bride. However, there may be a variety of reasons why you don’t want to follow convention, so here are a few alternative ideas for wedding speeches you might like to consider:
Mother of the bride
If the father of the bride is unable to be at the wedding, the mother of the bride may wish to stand and say a few words in his stead. This speech should follow the same conventions as the traditional father of the bride speech, but it could also include a tribute to the bride’s absent father, if appropriate.
Bridesmaids
While the best man often adds a touch of comedy to the reception, the chief bridesmaid can equally provide her own quirky anecdotes about the bride, especially if she is a sister or long-term friend who has known the bride for many years.
Bride
A bridal speech is a great opportunity to tell your new husband how much you love him, and to personally thank your parents and in-laws for their contributions to the wedding. In some cases, a bride may want to deliver a speech instead of her husband if he is prone to stage fright.
