Your wedding day is a day filled with happiness, love and emotion, a day to cherish long after the guests have gone home and the cake has been eaten. When planning your big day and all the small components which make it personal for you both, you may look for inspiration in literature, perhaps to use in your vows, on your save the date cards or even on your table plan. If you’re a fan of the written word and would like to incorporate some well-known romantic quotes into your day, here are our top five:
- If you like the idea of poetry, Robert Browning has beautifully summed up married life in one sentence; “Grow old along with me; the best is yet to be.”
- If you’re a sucker for a romantic movie, you’ll be spoiled for choice as there are some truly wonderful lines that your guests would instantly recognise. This one is from When Harry met Sally; “When you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.”
- If you prefer song lyrics as opposed to literature, there is a wealth of choice. This lyric from Etta James is a classic; “At last my love has come along, my lonely days are over and life is like a song.”
- As well as poetry, there are lots of different types of literature which lend themselves beautifully to your big day. There are a number of quotes from A.A. Milne’s Winnie-the-Pooh which are perfect for both your wedding vows or perhaps a wedding speech. Examples include: “as soon as I saw you, I knew an adventure was going to happen,” and “if you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day, so I never have to live without you.”
- When asking people to do a reading at your wedding, you may want to use a quote as part of that reading. There are many quotes which offer advice or reflect on the power of love – you just have to choose one that works for you! We’re particular fans of Charles Dickens, and his quote from Hard Times; “Have a heart that never hardens, and a temper that never tires, and a touch that never hurts.”
