Bindi Irwin, conservationist and daughter of the late “Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin, married her longtime boyfriend Chandler Powell on March 25th.
In a small, quiet ceremony, 21-year-old Bindi and 23-year-old Chandler, who have been dating since 2015, tied the knot in Australia Zoo, a venue chosen in a nod to Steve Irwin’s legacy of animal conservation, and in tribute to the same path that Bindi herself has chosen to follow in her work and private life. Both Bindi and Chandler work at the zoo which was opened in the 1970s by Bindi’s grandparents.
The guests at the wedding consisted of Bindi’s mother Terri, and her younger brother Robert, who walked his sister down the aisle in place of their father. A candle was lit in memory of Steve who died in 2006 after being killed by a stingray, at the age of 44.
One additional guest was the director of Australia Zoo, Wes Mannion, who was the best friend of Steve Irwin and has been a friend of the family since the 1980s. A large picture of Steve on an easel was present at the ceremony.
Bindi said later about her wedding dress that it was chosen for its long floral lace sleeves which reminded her of sunflower fields she would see on family drives with her late father when she was younger. It was designed by Australian wedding boutique Paddington Weddings.
Following the ceremony, Bindi and Chandler published a happy video on social media speaking directly to their followers about their wedding.
