Different religions have their own traditions which are steeped in culture and history. Judaism is one of the world’s oldest religions, dating back to over 2,000 years before Christianity. It is in fact the oldest monotheistic religion in the world, so many of its laws and traditions have been around for thousands of years.

When planning a Jewish wedding, here are a few things to incorporate into the big day.

1. The seating

It’s important to remember that at Orthodox Jewish weddings, men and women sit and sometimes dance separately, occasionally even with a partition to segregate the two seating areas. You will need to plan this carefully and discuss your requirements with your venue.

2. The canopy

A very prominent and important feature of Jewish wedding ceremonies is a cloth canopy supported by four poles. This is known as the chuppah. The groom’s parents will accompany him down the aisle to the chuppah, followed by the bride and her parents. This is where the exchange of vows takes place. You can decorate your chuppah according to your preference.

3. The glass

Don’t forget to have a glass ready in the ceremonial area, as it is customary for the groom to stamp on a glass with his right foot just before he kisses his new bride.
