Princess Sofia of Sweden celebrated her wedding anniversary with her husband Prince Carl Philip on June 13, and her Instagram account was teeming with beautiful photographs of their stunning wedding five years ago.
Prince Carl Philip, 41, is fourth in line to the Swedish throne, and is the middle child of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia. He met Princess Sofia, 35, (known at the time as Sofia Hellqvist) in 2010 at a restaurant, and the pair were introduced via mutual friends. After a four-year courtship, Prince Philip popped the question in Summer 2014.
The fairytale big day took place almost 12 months later in the Royal Chapel of Stockholm Palace, a popular venue for Swedish royal weddings, while the wedding venue for the reception was at the White Sea Ballroom of Stockholm Palace. The Palace is the official residence of the Swedish monarch.
The grand ceremony included a horse and carriage led cortège, a 21 gun salute, and an array of music including classical, hymns and pop.
In Princess Sofia’s newly released Instagram photographs, many private images of the beautiful wedding were revealed for the first time. Princess Sofia looked elegant and graceful in a long-sleeved full-length wedding dress with lace embellishments by Swedish designer Ida Sjöstedt.
To mark their fifth anniversary, the royal couple’s followers were also treated to photographs of the wedding day’s lavish floral table decorations and delicious desserts, proving that beautiful weddings make precious memories that last a lifetime.
